Baseboards

Baseboards provide a finished look by covering the gap between flooring and walls. They enhance the overall appearance of a space while protecting walls from scuffs and wear, and can be customized in various styles and heights to match the design. Our team installs baseboards on flooring projects across South Florida.

What Are Baseboards

A baseboard is the trim that runs along the bottom of the wall, where the wall meets the floor.

It is there for a practical reason first. Hard flooring is not installed tight against the wall. It needs a small gap around the perimeter, an expansion gap, so the material can move slightly as temperature and humidity change without buckling. That gap has to be covered, and the baseboard is what covers it.

It also takes the abuse that the bottom of a wall would otherwise take. Vacuum cleaners, mops, shoes, furniture and pet traffic all make contact at that height. The baseboard absorbs it, and painted trim is far easier to touch up or replace than a damaged wall.

Beyond function, baseboards frame the room. Height, profile and finish change how a space reads. A taller baseboard makes a room feel more substantial, a simple flat profile suits a modern interior, and a detailed profile fits traditional design. They can be matched to existing trim in the rest of the home or chosen to set a new direction.

Why Baseboards Matter

They Complete the Installation
A new floor without trim looks unfinished, because the expansion gap around the perimeter stays visible. Baseboards close that line and make the floor read as a finished surface.

They Protect the Wall
The bottom few inches of a wall take constant contact from cleaning, furniture and foot traffic. Trim takes that wear instead of the paintwork.

They Set the Character of the Room
Height and profile are a design decision. The same floor looks noticeably different framed by a tall detailed baseboard than by a low flat one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Flooring contractor Miami - REJP Flooring LLC

Do I need new baseboards when I install a new floor?

Not always. Existing baseboards can sometimes be removed and reinstalled after the floor goes down. Whether that works depends on their condition and on whether the new floor sits at a different height than the old one. We will look at what you have and tell you.

Why is there a gap between my floor and the wall?

That is an expansion gap, and it is intentional. Hard flooring expands and contracts slightly with changes in temperature and humidity, and without that space it can buckle. The baseboard covers it.

What height should I choose?

There is no single answer. Taller baseboards suit rooms with high ceilings and give a more substantial look, while lower profiles suit smaller or more modern spaces. Matching the trim elsewhere in the home is usually the safest starting point.

Can baseboards be matched to what I already have?

Yes. Baseboards come in a range of styles and heights, so trim in a newly floored room can be matched to the rest of the property rather than standing out

How much does baseboard installation cost?

The price depends on the linear footage, the style and height you choose, and whether existing trim is being removed. We come out, measure on site and give you a free in home estimate with no obligation.
