Existing flooring removal is the removal and disposal of existing flooring materials, including carpet, vinyl, laminate, hardwood, or tile, as required. Our team handles removal on flooring projects across South Florida.

What Is Existing Flooring Removal

Before a new floor can go down, the old one has to come up. That sounds simple, but every material comes up differently.

Carpet is cut into strips and pulled, along with the pad underneath and the tack strips around the perimeter. Laminate and floating floors unclick in sections. Glued down vinyl has to be lifted and the adhesive residue taken off the substrate, or it telegraphs through the new floor. Tile is the heaviest work of the group, because the tile and the mortar bed underneath both have to be broken out and removed. Hardwood is pried up plank by plank, along with any staples, nails or adhesive left behind.

What is left after that is a bare subfloor, and it is rarely clean. Adhesive, staples, mortar and debris all have to come off before anything new goes on top, which is where subfloor preparation begins.

The second half of the job is disposal. Flooring removal generates a lot of material, more than most people expect, and it is heavy. We haul it away as part of the work, so you are not left with a pile of old flooring to deal with.

Why Have Us Handle the Removal

Every Material Comes Up Differently
Tile, glued vinyl, carpet and hardwood each need a different approach. Doing it wrong damages the subfloor underneath and creates work that has to be paid for later.

What Is Left Behind Matters
Adhesive residue, mortar and staples left on the substrate will show through a new floor. Removal and preparation are one continuous process, not two separate jobs.

We Haul It Away
Old flooring is bulky and heavy, and disposal is a real part of the job. It leaves with us rather than sitting in your driveway.

Frequently Asked Questions

Flooring contractor Miami - REJP Flooring LLC

Do you take the old flooring away, or do I have to deal with it?

We remove and dispose of it. That includes carpet, vinyl, laminate, hardwood and tile.

Can a new floor be installed over the old one instead?

Sometimes, depending on the materials involved and the condition of what is there. But installing over an existing floor raises the floor height, which affects doors and transitions, and it hides whatever condition the subfloor is in. We will tell you on site which approach makes sense for your space.

Which floor is the hardest to remove?

Tile usually is, because the tile and the mortar bed beneath it both have to come out. Glued down vinyl can also be demanding, since the adhesive has to be taken off the substrate rather than just the vinyl.

Will removal damage my subfloor?

Not when it is done properly. The point of careful removal is to bring the old floor up without harming the substrate underneath, because that substrate is what the new floor depends on.

How much does flooring removal cost?

The price depends on the material being removed, the size of the area, and how it was originally installed. We come out, look at what is there and give you a free in home estimate with no obligation.
