What Is Laminate

Laminate is a multi layer flooring built around a dense HDF core, a compressed wood fiber board that gives the plank its strength. Over that core sits a printed design layer that carries the wood grain and color, and above it a clear wear layer that takes the daily abuse.

That wear layer is what laminate is known for. It is harder to scratch than real wood, which is why it holds up well in homes with children, pets, or heavy foot traffic. It also costs considerably less than hardwood while looking very close to it.

The core is wood based, so laminate does not handle standing water the way vinyl plank does. It works best in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, offices and retail spaces, and is less suited to bathrooms and laundry rooms. Planks click together over a prepared subfloor, which keeps installation fast and clean.

Is laminate a good choice for a home in South Florida?

It works very well in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and offices. For bathrooms, laundry rooms and other areas exposed to standing water, luxury vinyl plank is usually the better option, and we will go over both during your in home estimate.

How is laminate different from luxury vinyl plank?

Laminate has a wood based core and offers strong scratch resistance at a lower cost. Vinyl plank contains no natural wood, so it handles moisture and humidity far better. The right choice depends on the room and how it is used

Can laminate be installed over a concrete slab?

Yes. The slab is inspected and prepared first, and any moisture or leveling issues are addressed as part of subfloor preparation before the floor goes down.

Can laminate be refinished if it gets damaged?
